Spencer Spirit Holdings, the company behind Spencer's and Spirit Halloween, has agreed to acquire Hot Topic Inc., including Hot Topic, BoxLunch, and Her Universe.

For generations of comic, anime, gaming, music, horror, and alternative-culture fans, Hot Topic has been much more than another mall retailer.

The acquisition brings several recognizable fandom-oriented brands under the same corporate umbrella, making the future direction of Hot Topic particularly interesting.
