The Comic Section Podcast is back with Issue #404, and this week Calvin a.k.a. The Statue Fanatic returns to join Jason and Shawn for another packed discussion about Marvel, DC, Hollywood, video games, and horror!

This week's biggest headlines include Michael Bay potentially returning to the Transformers franchise, Steven Soderbergh stepping in to help complete The Batman Part II, a new Cyberpunk 2077 movie, and fresh updates about Swamp Thing and Daredevil: Born Again.

We're also discussing trailers for Narnia: The Magician's Nephew, Blade Runner 2099, and The Exorcist: Martyrs, before closing out with reviews of Street Fighter, Carrie, and Crystal Lake.

Remembering Breaking Bad Actor RJ Mitte

We begin this week's episode by remembering actor RJ Mitte, who passed away at the age of 34.

Mitte became widely recognized for portraying Walter White Jr., the son of Bryan Cranston's Walter White, on AMC's critically acclaimed series Breaking Bad.

Beyond his work on television and in films, Mitte became an important advocate for disability representation in Hollywood.

Living with cerebral palsy himself, Mitte used his visibility to raise awareness, challenge stereotypes, and promote inclusion.

His career also included roles in Triumph, Love Me Dead, and other film and television projects.

We send our condolences to his family, friends, and fans while recognizing his contributions to entertainment and disability advocacy.

Steven Soderbergh Steps In to Help Finish The Batman Part II

One of DC's most anticipated movies is undergoing an unusual production change.

Acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh is stepping in to oversee the remaining principal photography on The Batman Part II while filmmaker Matt Reeves temporarily steps away from the set to attend to a family matter.

Importantly, Reeves is not leaving the project.

The two filmmakers are working together to ensure the remaining footage matches Reeves' established vision for the sequel.

The situation raises an interesting filmmaking question: Can another director step into a major production without audiences noticing a difference?

Soderbergh's experience across multiple genres makes him an intriguing choice to help complete the film.

On Issue #404, we discuss the development and our continued anticipation for Robert Pattinson's return as Batman.

James Mangold's Swamp Thing Is Still in Development

DC Studios has offered reassurance about another highly anticipated project.

James Mangold's Swamp Thing remains in active development, with a screenplay reportedly being written.

Mangold, known for directing Logan and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, has previously discussed approaching Swamp Thing as an atmospheric gothic horror story rather than a conventional superhero movie.

That creative direction could offer something very different from the traditional DC superhero formula.

Instead of focusing primarily on massive action sequences and interconnected storylines, Swamp Thing could explore horror, isolation, humanity, and monstrosity.

There's still no confirmed release date or cast, but the project remains one worth watching.

Cyberpunk 2077 Is Getting a Live-Action Movie

Night City is heading to theaters.

Paramount is developing a live-action film set in the universe of Cyberpunk 2077, the popular role-playing game from CD Projekt Red.

However, the movie is not expected to directly recreate the game's main storyline.

Instead, the creative team intends to develop an original story set within the same universe.

That decision creates plenty of possibilities.

The world of Cyberpunk 2077 offers a setting filled with powerful corporations, futuristic technology, dangerous criminals, and questions about what it means to be human.

An original story could allow filmmakers to explore new characters while preserving the atmosphere that made the game popular.

But will audiences want a new adventure, or will they expect familiar characters and recognizable storylines?

We discuss whether this could become another successful video game adaptation.

Michael Bay in Talks to Return to Transformers

Could the Transformers franchise be returning to its blockbuster roots?

Paramount is reportedly giving Steven Spielberg a larger creative role in the next live-action Transformers movie, while Michael Bay is in early discussions about returning as director.

Bay helped launch the franchise's modern theatrical era with 2007's Transformers, bringing Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron, and the Autobots and Decepticons to live-action audiences on a massive scale.

His films became known for explosive action, elaborate visual effects, and enormous spectacle.

However, the franchise also faced criticism over increasingly complicated storylines and repetitive formulas.

With the planned Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover no longer moving forward, Paramount appears to be reconsidering the franchise's direction.

Would returning to Michael Bay's filmmaking style reignite audience interest?

Or should Transformers continue experimenting with new directors and different approaches?

That's one of our biggest debates this week.

Marvel TV Boss Explains Why Watching Daredevil Matters

With Daredevil: Born Again approaching its third and final season, Marvel Television executive Brad Winderbaum has offered a reminder about the importance of viewership.

Fans have successfully used online campaigns to demonstrate support for beloved shows, but streaming numbers remain an essential factor in whether studios continue investing in projects.

Winderbaum's comments raise an important question about modern television.

Are online fan campaigns still capable of changing a studio's decisions?

Or do viewing figures ultimately determine which shows survive?

We discuss the challenges facing television franchises in an increasingly competitive streaming environment.

Trailer Reactions: Narnia, Blade Runner 2099 and The Exorcist

Our Coming Soon/Preview segment features three very different projects.

Narnia: The Magician's Nephew brings audiences back into the fantasy world created by C.S. Lewis.

Blade Runner 2099 continues exploring the futuristic science-fiction universe associated with one of cinema's most influential franchises.

And The Exorcist: Martyrs brings another chapter of supernatural horror into the conversation.

We discuss our first impressions and which projects have us most interested.

Street Fighter, Carrie and Crystal Lake Reviews

Our Review segment features three major properties.

First, Jason reviews Street Fighter, offering his thoughts on the latest adaptation of the iconic fighting-game franchise.

Then Jason discusses Amazon Prime Video's Carrie, another adaptation of Stephen King's famous horror story.

Finally, Shawn shares his first impressions of the opening two episodes of Peacock's Crystal Lake, the series connected to the Friday the 13th universe.

For horror fans, this is an especially interesting week, with two classic properties returning to the spotlight.

Should Michael Bay Direct Transformers Again?

That's our big question for Issue #404.

Michael Bay helped make Transformers one of the biggest action franchises in Hollywood, but his approach also divided fans.

Would bringing him back be a smart move?

Could Steven Spielberg's greater creative involvement help establish a fresh direction?

Or should Paramount find a completely new filmmaker to guide the Autobots into the future?

We want to hear from you!
