Our First New York Comic Con! The Comic Section Podcast Reviews NYCC 2026 and Its 20th Anniversary
The Comic Section Podcast finally made it to New York Comic Con!
After years of discussing superhero movies, comic books, anime, television, video games, and pop culture, hosts Jason and Shawn traveled to New York City to experience New York Comic Con 2026 for the very first time.
And this year's convention was especially meaningful as NYCC celebrated its 20th anniversary.
On The Comic Section Podcast Issue #403, we're stepping away from our usual entertainment headlines to share our first-time experiences at one of the world's biggest pop-culture conventions.
Joining us is special guest host Calvin, a.k.a. The Statue Fanatic, who helped guide us through the adventure and joins the conversation to find out what we thought of the convention and New York City.
What Is It Like Attending New York Comic Con for the First Time?
Watching New York Comic Con coverage online is one thing.
Actually attending the convention is something completely different.
For years, we've seen the cosplay, celebrity panels, collectibles, exclusive merchandise, and major entertainment announcements that make NYCC such a huge event.
But experiencing the atmosphere in person gave us an entirely new perspective.
From stepping into the convention center to seeing thousands of fans celebrating their favorite franchises, our first NYCC experience reminded us why geek culture has become such an important part of our lives.
The Best Parts of New York Comic Con 2026
Every convention has those moments that make the entire trip worthwhile.
For Jason and Shawn, one of the biggest questions going into NYCC was whether the experience could live up to the anticipation.
On Issue #403, we discuss the things we enjoyed most about attending the convention.
We explore the excitement of the convention floor, the creativity of the fans, the incredible variety of merchandise and collectibles, and the overall feeling of being surrounded by people who share our interests.
Whether you're a fan of Marvel, DC, anime, video games, movies, or comic books, New York Comic Con offers an environment built around celebrating those passions.
And for first-time attendees, that atmosphere can be unforgettable.
What Didn't We Like About NYCC?
Of course, not every part of a major convention is perfect.
One of the biggest reasons we wanted to dedicate an entire episode to our experience was to talk about both the positives and the negatives.
Major conventions can involve enormous crowds, busy schedules, long days, and difficult decisions about which experiences to prioritize.
So we discuss the aspects of NYCC that didn't live up to our expectations, along with the things we might do differently if we return.
For anyone considering attending New York Comic Con for the first time, hearing an honest perspective from other first-timers can be valuable.
Experiencing New York City Beyond Comic Con
New York Comic Con may have been the main reason for our trip, but the city itself became a major part of the experience.
New York City has a culture, energy, and atmosphere unlike anywhere else.
From the busy streets and iconic scenery to the people and the overall pace of the city, there's plenty to experience beyond the convention center.
Jason and Shawn share their impressions of New York City, what surprised them, and the things that made their visit memorable.
For us, this episode isn't just a review of a convention.
It's also a look back at the entire adventure.
Calvin The Statue Fanatic Joins the Conversation
Helping us break down the experience is our special guest host Calvin a.k.a. The Statue Fanatic.
Calvin served as a guide during our trip and joins Issue #403 to ask Jason and Shawn about their first NYCC experience.
What were our expectations before arriving?
What surprised us the most?
What were our favorite moments?
What would we change?
And after finally experiencing New York Comic Con, would we recommend it to someone who's never attended?
These are just some of the questions we explore together.
Is New York Comic Con Worth Attending?
For fans of comic books, movies, anime, television, video games, collectibles, and pop culture, New York Comic Con represents an opportunity to experience those interests in an entirely different way.
But whether it's worth attending depends on what you want from the convention.
Some fans go for the celebrity panels.
Others want exclusive merchandise.
Some are there for cosplay.
Others simply enjoy being surrounded by a community that shares their interests.
For Jason and Shawn, attending NYCC for the first time provided an opportunity to experience something we'd spent years discussing on The Comic Section Podcast.
On Issue #403, we share our overall verdict and what we learned from the trip.
The Comic Section Podcast Continues Its Journey
Having recently celebrated our 400th episode, visiting New York Comic Con represents another memorable chapter in The Comic Section's journey.
What began as conversations about the entertainment we love has grown into a podcast that allows us to connect with fans, creators, guests, and fellow members of the geek community.
And experiences like NYCC remind us why we started.
It's about more than entertainment. It's about the memories and connections that come from sharing what you love.
