Prime Video’s upcoming adaptation of the popular God of War video-game franchise is reportedly searching for a new lead actor.
Ryan Hurst, who had been preparing to portray Kratos, suffered a serious bicep injury while performing a stunt during production. Following surgery, the actor is now recovering while production remains paused.
Recasting a central role is always a significant challenge, but Kratos is especially difficult to replace. The character requires an actor capable of delivering physical intensity, emotional depth, commanding dialogue, and the complicated relationship between Kratos and his son Atreus.
The casting decision could ultimately determine whether Prime Video’s adaptation successfully captures what made the modern God of War games so popular.
The Odyssey Delivers a Huge Opening Weekend
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey reportedly earned $124.5 million domestically and approximately $264.1 million worldwide during its opening weekend.
The global debut surpassed the film’s reported $250 million production budget and became Nolan’s largest worldwide opening to date.
Featuring a cast that includes Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron, the movie retells the ancient Greek story of Odysseus and his dangerous journey home following the Trojan War.
Its strong performance demonstrates the continued power of Nolan’s name, theatrical filmmaking, premium formats, and event-driven cinema.
However, earning more than a movie’s production budget does not automatically mean it has become profitable. Marketing expenses, theater revenue shares, distribution costs, and other expenses must also be considered. Even so, the opening represents an extremely promising start for the film.
Kevin Feige Addresses Marvel’s Blade Problems
Marvel Studios first announced Mahershala Ali as Blade in 2019, but the reboot has endured multiple delays, creative changes, director departures, and scheduling problems.
Kevin Feige recently expressed deep disappointment over Marvel’s inability to successfully move the project into production.
The studio president’s comments illustrate just how difficult the development process has become. Marvel wants to use Ali’s version of Blade, but the studio has struggled to find the right story and direction for the character.
Blade should seemingly be one of Marvel’s most straightforward properties: a skilled vampire hunter battling supernatural threats throughout the darker corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, finding the correct tone, rating, supporting characters, and connection to the wider MCU has apparently complicated the project.
The question now is whether Marvel can finally deliver the modern Blade movie audiences were promised or whether the character will appear elsewhere in the MCU first.
Ryan Reynolds Confirms Another Deadpool Movie
Following the success of Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds has confirmed that another Deadpool movie will eventually happen.
The next film could explore lesser-known characters and stories from Deadpool’s comic-book history while expanding Wade Wilson’s place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The largest question may be whether the next installment will be a direct Deadpool & Wolverine sequel, a smaller Deadpool adventure, or part of a larger ensemble project.
After the previous film became a record-breaking R-rated blockbuster, Marvel has plenty of reasons to bring the Merc with a Mouth back to the big screen.
Jackie Chan Returns in Armour of God 4
Jackie Chan is returning as Asian Hawk in Armour of God 4: Ultimatum.
The new adventure reportedly follows Asian Hawk as he becomes involved in a worldwide search for an ancient artifact called the Tumar. With millions of dollars at stake, the mission is expected to deliver another combination of action, treasure hunting, physical comedy, and dangerous stunt work.
Chan first played Asian Hawk in the 1986 film Armour of God before returning in Operation Condor and Chinese Zodiac.
His return continues an action legacy that has lasted for decades and influenced stunt performers and filmmakers around the world.
